Futuro house. Created for the harsh winter climate. A smaller version was used as a portable ski cabin. Made of light weight plastic, you could just hook it to a helicopter and fly it to your ski location. Only about a 100 were made between 1960 and the mid 70’s.

The bedroom, our sanctuary. Peeling back fresh sheets to climb inside a comfy bed is the days-end luxury. New Posts every Friday.

A study in gray. Bedrooms I photographed while living in Finland.

A simple treat: A tray for tea and snacks.

A good idea: Additional throw blankets. This light and airy white one is from IKEA.

Extra cozy: A reading corner in the bedroom.

Inspiration from Pinrest

Clever: A blackboard to jot down daily ideas.

Keep it simple: For a fresh feel allow for empty wall space.

Color palette ideas.

Art Idea: Frame a map of your favorite place

Hang your shoes up!

A white room gives high contrast for a fun splash of color.

Napa Valley Cottage

Posted on July 8, 2011. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Last year I photographed this classic, cute example of a Napa cottage home. I love wandering down old neighborhoods, there are so many different styles of homes to see, a smorgasbord of design! This blog is dedicated to cottage inspirations, petite homes jam-packed with charm.

Photos by Indra Fortney. New blog every Friday.

The mixture of materials adds to the cozy feel of this space; trunk table, vintage carved mirror, stone fireplace, oriental carpet and fresh flowers.

Simple and pretty. A swag of white fabric over just one window is the perfect accent in this small eating area off the kitchen.

A little bit of a lodge feeling with pine plank walls and fishing lures.

Vintage fans are a great way to keep rooms cool.

I love the hand held mirror hung between the mirrors, simple and handy.

Vintage tile.

This patio has an old Hollywood feel to me, I think the striped cushions remind me of the Beverly Hills Hotel, as a special treat my grandmother used to take me there for a milkshake (she was  known to occasionally slip one of their silver monogrammed spoons into her handbag).

Ideas to rob from Pinrest:

Wood counters give a warm, homey feel.

Open shelves and big farm sinks are fresh and wholesome.

Baskets are the way to store.

Can’t afford vintage tile? Try a painted stencil pattern instead.

Look for vintage pieces to use as storage cabinets.

Etsy Finds.

Vintage faux-leather stool $49

1955 bird plate print $10.00
